Everyday things and skills
Building confidence step by step — budgeting, buses, cooking, using services — plus help sorting the everyday supplies you need.

What this support is
This is the support for doing more yourself. Working out a weekly budget and shopping to it. Cooking three meals you can make again on your own. Catching the bus to TAFE. Ringing the GP to book an appointment. Dealing with the bank or Centrelink. And alongside that, sorting the everyday supplies you use up — continence products and other low-cost, disability-related items — so they are there when you need them.
On the NDIS side it is a mix. The worker's time sits in your core budget, under Assistance with Daily Life or Social and Community Participation depending on what you are doing. The supplies sit under Consumables, also core. Some plans fund skill-building through capacity building as well. Core budgets are flexible across their categories, so we can usually make it work — bring the plan and we will read it with you.
The goal is always the same: do it together first, then a bit less, then not at all.
What a typical shift looks like
- The weekly shop. A list written together. A budget agreed. Then the supermarket or the market — comparing prices, sticking to the list, paying at the checkout, packing it away at home.
- Bus practice. Planning the route on the app. Tapping on. Knowing which stop. The worker beside you the first time, a few seats back the next, then waiting at the other end, then not there at all.
- Cooking a repeat meal. The same three dinners until they are easy. Reading the recipe. Using the stove safely. Cleaning up as you go.
- Sorting supplies. Working out what continence or other everyday products you need, where to get them, and how to keep the order coming so you never run out.
- Using services. Making a phone call together. Filling in a form. Getting to and through an appointment.
Who it tends to suit
- Young adults finishing school and starting to run more of their own week.
- People who want to do things themselves and need someone patient to practise with.
- Families who want progress they can see — a bus route learned, a meal mastered, a budget kept.
- Anyone with core funding (Daily Life, Community Participation or Consumables) who is self-managed or plan-managed.
What it costs
We charge at or below the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. The worker's time is billed at the price-guide rate for that time of day — weekday, evening, Saturday, Sunday and public holiday each differ — and you get every rate in writing before the first shift. Supplies are claimed from your consumables budget at their actual cost. No sign-up fee, no minimum hours, no lock-in. Full detail on our pricing page.
What we are not
- Not therapy. Occupational therapy, speech pathology and psychology are capacity-building supports delivered by allied health professionals. We follow their plans; we do not write them.
- Not an employment service. Job coaching and school-leaver employment supports come from specialist providers. We can help with the everyday skills that sit around a job — the commute, the lunch, the routine.
- Not a plan manager or support coordinator. We do not manage your budget or coordinate your other providers. We work with yours.
Unsure where you fit? Call 0403 886 293 and tell us what you would like to be able to do. If we are not the right fit, we will say so and point you to who is.
How it starts
- A ten-minute chat with Heidi — same or next business day. Call 0403 886 293, use the one-minute check, or send a message.
- A free meet-and-greet with the worker we think fits — before you commit to anything.
- A plain-English service agreement and our rate card in writing. No sign-up fee, no lock-in. You can end it any time.
- Support starts — usually within one to two weeks of the first call.
Straight up: we are not an NDIS-registered provider, so we work with self-managed and plan-managed participants. If your plan is NDIA-managed you need a registered provider, and we will say so on the first call.
Questions people ask
Is this therapy?
No. Occupational therapists, speech pathologists and other allied health professionals assess and prescribe; we are support workers who help you practise the everyday, over and over, until it sticks. Many families use both, and we are happy to follow a therapist's plan.
What counts as an everyday supply?
Low-cost, disability-related items you use up — continence products are the common one. The NDIS calls this Consumables and it sits in your core budget. We help you work out what you need, where to get it and how to keep it stocked; the items themselves are claimed from your plan.
How long until my son or daughter can catch the bus alone?
Honestly, it depends on the person and the route. We start by doing it together, then step back a little each time — waiting at the stop, riding a few stops behind, then not at all. You will see the progress week to week and we will tell you plainly how it is going.
Which part of my plan pays for this?
Mostly your core budget: the worker's time under Assistance with Daily Life or Social and Community Participation, and the supplies under Consumables. Some plans also fund skill-building through capacity building. Core budgets are flexible, so bring the plan and we will read it with you.
